We should be doing everything workable to develop geo-thermal free energy technology. This area has not yet been probed very deeply, but it has huge potential, as it is available from mother earth. There is huger amount of energy lying just beneath the surface of the earth on which we live, and saddling it is the greatest job.

The temperature at the hub of the earth is sixty times greater than the temperature at which water boils and this tremendous heat produce pressure, which exist only a few miles underground. This enormous heat is a store of almost limitless energy and result in super hot fluids called magma, which we can see whenever a volcano erupts. These fluids also come up to the surface of the earth as steam and erupt from vents.

Such vents can also be created by us as well as chambers where the magma can be held and later convert this into energy to develop electricity for lights and heat in our homes. A geothermal plant can be created if we dig a well on the ground where there is a rich source of magma or hot fluid, then fit the well with a pipe which would pump up the hot fluid to ground level for the production of required steam. The steam would turn a turbine, which would generate the electricity.

There are unfavorable judgments of geo-thermal energy tapping which prevents it being applied on the large scale which it should be. According to skeptics finding the right location is expensive and time-consuming. Then setting up a geothermic power station is also very expensive, with no assurance of any future profits. It might be found that a geothermal site is ultimately not producing adequate steam to make the plant feasible or promising.

Unfortunately we also hear from conservationists who worry that bringing up magma can bring up potentially harmful materials along with it. However the advantages of geothermic free energy can easily beat these criticisms, if only we examined the matter in greater depth. The truth of the subject is that since this free energy is created by earth itself, it cannot contain any serious pollutants. geothermal free energy is extremely cost-efficient — the efforts needed to channel it are minimal after a site is found and a plant is set up.

It is also a fact that geothermal plants are not as enormous as electric plants, dams or atomic free energy units and this means that it would not disturb the surroundings too much. Nevertheless, it is an substitute form of energy and using it would mean we become that much less reliant on oil and coal. Perhaps most importantly of all, we are never, ever going to run out of geothermal energy, and it is not a commodity that would forever become more costly in terms of real dollars as time passes, since it is ubiquitous. The use of geothermal energy would be exceedingly affordable and the cost of building a power plant can be recovered expeditiously.
